WHAT WE DO

Who We Are

The Virginia High School Democrats (VAHSD) helps high school students across the Commonwealth of Virginia gain more political involvement. We have hundreds of members who work to advance the values and beliefs of the Democratic Party of Virginia, engage in political activism, and help elect Democrats up and down the ballot.

OUR OBJECTIVES

Objective One

POLICY

The Virginia High School Democrats are committed to advocating for progressive change through our legislative process here in Virginia. Every General Assembly Session, members of the Virginia High School Democrat go lobby elected officials on critical issues. In addition, we author and introduce state legislation that we believe should be signed into law statewide to benefit young Virginians.

Objective Two

POLITICAL

The Virginia High School Democrats mobilize high school students across Virginia in local and statewide democratic campaigns. We help coordinate canvass launches, phone-banking, and other voter outreach initiatives to support democratic candidates. VAHSD additionally helps educate high school students on the importance of civic engagement. We host workshops and trainings to help teach high school students how to canvass, lobby, host voter registration drives, and much more.

Objective Three

REPRESENTATION

The Virginia High School Democrats are represented on the State Central Committee of the Democratic Party of Virginia (DPVA). The State Central Committee is the governing body of the DPVA and controls all party matters. The Chair, Jack George, is given a seat on the committee and is the youngest committee member. It is the Chair's job to help represent high school students and their priorities at the DPVA State Central Committee.
