FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Yesterday, the Democratic Party of Virginia State Central Committee, made up of more than 240 members, voted unanimously to adopt the Teen Caucus’ resolution calling on the Virginia General Assembly to enact a new law to permit middle and high school students to take partial day excused absences once a year to partake in civic and political events.
We applaud this decision of the Central Committee and would like to thank the 8th Congressional District Democratic Committee and the Fairfax County Democratic Committee, who have been working alongside us since August to get this resolution passed.
This is a huge milestone and is the product of hours of long work by members of the Teen Caucus. But this is only the beginning of our advocacy for Virginia teen Democrats. In the coming weeks and months, we shall continue to work with our legislators to make sure that our bill passes in 2021 and that teens have an opportunity to influence the decision-making process.
